From Ngurah Rai Airport

Getting to Seminyak takes 20–30 minutes in light traffic, but up to an hour during rush hour. I recommend spending your first night right by the ocean – it’s easier to adjust after a long flight with the sound of waves than jumping straight into Ubud's packed schedule.

Seminyak Beach

A wide sandy beach with several beach clubs and bars — quieter and better developed than the surf beaches further north in Canggu. A great spot for your first swim and sunset without a long drive on arrival day.

Tanah Lot Temple

One of Bali’s most photographed temples — it sits on a separate rock outcrop in the sea, accessible only at low tide. The best time to visit is at sunset when the temple's silhouette darkens against an orange sky; it gets crowded with tour buses then, but the spectacle is worth it.

Monkey Forest

A protected forest with several hundred Balinese macaques and ancient temples inside — entrance is around 80,000 IDR. The monkeys are accustomed to people and can snatch food or shiny objects from your hands – it's best to hold glasses and phones securely, and avoid looking into open bags of food.

Ubud Palace and Market

Puri Saren Palace is the current residence of the Ubud royal family with courtyards that are open to visitors; traditional dance performances often take place here in the evenings. The market nearby offers souvenirs, textiles, and spices; haggling is normal, as starting prices are usually inflated by 2–3 times.

Tegallalang Rice Terraces

Cascading rice paddies on a hillside – this is the most recognizable landscape of the island. Entrance to the area with the best viewpoints is by donation (usually 25,000–50,000 IDR per point, there are several different landowners), plus a separate fee for the famous swings over the jungle if you want to ride.

Early Morning Ascent

Departure from Ubud around 2:30 AM, hiking up the volcano (approximately 400 meters of elevation gain, a 1.5–2 hour walk along an easy trail with a guide) — we make it to sunrise on the crater rim. The tour costs from 300,000 to 850,000 IDR per person depending on the format (hiking or jeep), and usually includes a light breakfast right at the summit overlooking the lake.

Ulung Danu Temple on Lake Bratan

After descending and resting — transfer to the temple, seemingly floating on the water of a mountain lake, one of Bali’s most recognizable silhouettes (pictured on the 50,000 rupiah banknote). It's cooler in the mountains than on the coast – it’s worth taking a light sweater.

Tegenungan Waterfall

On the way back — one of the most accessible and powerful waterfalls on the island, descending stairs to an observation deck and swimming area at the base. A good way to refresh after an early rise and a long day driving.

Lempuyang Temple and the "Gates of Heaven"

One of Bali’s oldest and most revered temple complexes, famous for its “split” stone archway with views of Mount Agung. The iconic photo with the mirrored "reflection" in a puddle is a staged shot: the reflection is created by a glass panel held by an assistant photographer. During peak season, expect to wait 1-1.5 hours for this photo opportunity.

Tirta Gangga Water Palace

The former residence of the last king of Karangasem – ponds with lotus flowers, stone walkways that appear to be steps directly into the water, and fountains with multi-tiered sculptures. A peaceful and photogenic spot without the heavy crowds you’ll find at Lempuyang.

Uluwatu Temple on the Cliff

Perched atop a sheer 70-meter cliff overlooking the ocean – entrance fee around 60,000 IDR, sarongs are provided free of charge at the entrance. Macaques live here, accustomed to grabbing tourists' glasses and headwear – keep your belongings secure and away from the edge of the path.

Padang-Padang Beach

A small bay with white sand, accessed via a narrow passage through a cliff – one of the island’s well-known surf spots, but the shore is calm enough for regular swimming in the morning.

Kecak Dance at Sunset

Ticket – 150,000 IDR (separate from the temple entrance fee), performances usually take place at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. A choral male dance accompanied by multi-vocal “chak-chak-chak” without a single musical instrument, against the backdrop of the sunset over the ocean – arrive an hour early to secure seats with a view.

Speedboat

The crossing from mainland Bali takes about 40 minutes; boats depart from several piers (Sanur has the most reliable schedule). A day tour with a car around the island starts from $54 per person and includes lunch and entrance fees.

Kelingking Beach

A rock formation over the water, resembling a dinosaur's head, is one of Bali’s most recognizable spots on social media. The descent to the water is steep and without railings (around 20–30 minutes along a dirt track) – it can be slippery in the rain, so assess the weather before descending.

Angel’s Billabong Natural Pool

A natural pool in the rocks with turquoise water that is occasionally flooded by an ocean wave – you should only swim during low tide and only where it's clearly safe; currents can be strong at the edges.

Getting to the Airport

The drive from Uluwatu to Ngurah Rai is about 30–40 minutes outside of rush hour. Given that this is the last day after a busy week, it makes sense to leave the morning free and avoid scheduling any activities before your flight.
