The staff are extremely friendly, and the room was very clean. Hotel staff are very attentive, and you can tell they put their hearts into their work. Service at the hotel is simply outstanding.

The location and atmosphere are genuinely very good, but there are a few notable shortcomings: 1. There's a clear safety issue at the pool. On the morning of 20 June there was no lifeguard on duty, and staff weren't keeping a consistent eye on the pool, letting guests use the deep end unsupervised. I was one of at least three guests taking turns swimming alone, including a young woman who was clearly uncomfortable in the deep end. I specifically warned them before I left, but when I passed by again around ten in the morning after breakfast, there was still no lifeguard. Given the depth changes in the pool, that's genuinely dangerous. 2. Regarding the Saturday/Sunday 11 am Chao Phraya river boat tour, I saw no information about it anywhere — not on the booking page, not at check-in. By the time I found the information online and asked the concierge on the evening of check-in, it was already too late to sign up. This should be actively offered at booking, with guests staying over the weekend asked whether they'd like it, along with the other hotel activities. It shouldn't be something guests have to dig up themselves. 3. At check-in the room wasn't fully stocked: only one bottle of drinking water and no body lotion. They weren't topped up during evening turndown either. You can always ask the concierge to bring them, but this kind of gap in check-in preparation feels unprofessional. 4. There were birds in the outdoor breakfast area that staff weren't in any hurry to shoo away. I found it amusing, but I admit I wouldn't want that to be my table.

Mandarin Oriental Bangkok: century-old riverside luxury, the embodiment of refined old-money elegance. Strolling along the Chao Phraya in Bangkok, the Mandarin Oriental stopped being just a hotel long ago — it's a legendary place with a century of history. More than a hundred years on, it has shed any showy glamour, weaving restrained old-money elegance into every brick and every roof tile. From the personal butler and wellness spa to authentic Thai cuisine, every detail here embodies true five-star luxury. Built on the banks of the Chao Phraya, the hotel blends century-old colonial architecture with classic Thai aesthetics. There's no dazzling, showy opulence here, only an easy sophistication that old families carry, and a calm refuge that celebrities and aristocrats have favoured for years. The luxury here is never on display — it's woven into traditions of service passed down through generations. The moment you walk in, you understand what timeless classic means. Round-the-clock, exclusive butler service is the hotel's most compelling calling card. From the moment you arrive and throughout your stay, a butler attends to you closely, anticipating your needs without being asked. Handling luggage, planning your itinerary, tidying the room, preparing tea — everything is done with the utmost attention to detail. Every gesture is professional and appropriate, with perfectly judged restraint. Morning greetings, careful preparation before you head out, a warm welcome when you return late at night — all of it unobtrusive yet ever-present. Flawless comfort is woven into everyday life, making the stay feel like being in a private estate — relaxed and calm. The hotel's Thai spa is considered one of the best in Bangkok, tucked away in a quiet inner courtyard surrounded by greenery and running water, shutting out the bustle of the city. It's built on genuine, ancient Thai therapeutic technique. The therapists work with professionalism and a gentle, measured touch, gradually easing away travel fatigue, starting at the shoulders and neck and ending in full-body relaxation. The individual treatment rooms are quiet and private, a light scented mist helps you relax, and natural Thai essential oils enhance the effect. After a session, body and mind fully unwind, like drifting into a gentle sleep. This remarkable feeling that reaches deep within is a signature service not to be missed during your stay. The dining experience is a feast for the senses, perfectly blending pure Thai flavours with international cuisine. The restaurant specialising in Thai food sticks strictly to traditional recipes: green curry, tom yum, deep-fried Thai starters, tropical desserts — all authentic, with rich sweet-sour-and-spicy flavours and fresh, carefully chosen ingredients that recreate the true taste of Bangkok. The riverside dining area offers a magnificent view, with the evening breeze accompanying the scenery of the Chao Phraya. Enjoying refined food while admiring the night view of the river, you're fully immersed in the atmosphere. Beyond classic Thai dishes, cuisines from around the world, elegant afternoon teas and homemade desserts are also excellent. The choice of ingredients, presentation and taste all live up to a five-star standard, satisfying even the most discerning palate. Century-old renown, unwavering craftsmanship — the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok has spent a century building its essence and defining luxury down to the smallest detail. Around 1,300 professional staff with an average of 14 years' tenure, a 4:1 staff-to-guest ratio. Restrained, refined old-money style, flawless butler service, a restorative ancient spa, unforgettable Thai cuisine — together they create a unique riverside experience. It doesn't chase trends, it holds to the classics. This is the best choice for staying in Bangkok, a luxurious trip worth repeating again and again.

This legendary riverside hotel on the Chao Phraya, with 150 years of history, is the group's flagship and founding property — the source of its brand spirit. From check-in you can slow down and immerse yourself in a world of old traditions, Thai elegance and exceptional service, enjoying unforgettable time whether through food, culture or rest. **Location:** The hotel is tucked away in the lanes of the old town, and when traffic is heavy the area can feel a little cramped. At check-in we ran into a small jam caused by a white Mercedes and a wedding procession. The hotel sits on both banks of the Chao Phraya: the main buildings, including the lobby and rooms, are on the east bank, while the Thai restaurant, cooking school and spa are on the west bank. The boat shuttle between them is very convenient. **Room:** All rooms in the River Wing have lovely views over the Chao Phraya. After a full renovation in 2019 the traditional style became even more refined: teak furniture paired with soft Thai silk upholstery, a headboard with delicate, elegant brass carving in the shape of a boat, and vintage-style custom bathrooms. Of course there are downsides too: the bathroom and toilet are rather cramped. **Dining:** The Riverside Terrace restaurant on the east bank isn't in direct morning sun, and the light river breeze makes it very comfortable. The food is varied and generous, with plenty of local specialties, and the quality is outstanding. There are 12 restaurants and bars in total offering plenty of options, though this time we only tried the traditional Thai cuisine at Sala Rim Naam. **Pool:** Mostly deep, not too crowded. Sunbathing after a swim is lovely! **Service:** Around 1,300 professional staff with an average of 14 years' tenure, a 4:1 staff-to-guest ratio [smile]. Professional and attentive [thumbs up].

Great experience overall, though there was a small hiccup with a birthday gift — Trip.com's personal customer service was very attentive about it. The Mandarin Oriental's front desk service was a bit unprofessional at times and communication wasn't always smooth, but the manager turned out to be very capable and sorted my issue out. 👍
