India doesn't fit into any single trip, but two destinations suit a first one: the beaches of Goa with Portuguese heritage and Kerala with canals, floating houseboats and tea hills. If you want the classic — the Taj Mahal in Agra. A holiday in India depends on the season more than in most countries of Asia.
An independent trip around India is more convenient to build around one region: Goa (GOI airport) or Kerala (COK). For two regions domestic flights are needed, and between the cities of the North trains, tickets for which are bought in advance.
Why independently
- Your own region. The Goa beach, Kerala's lagoons or the "golden triangle" of Delhi — Agra — Jaipur.
- Price. Hotels and guesthouses without an intermediary are available in all categories.
- Food. Regional cuisine differs from state to state.
When is it best to go
The best season for Goa and Kerala is from November to February: dry and warm. From June to September the monsoon rains come, the sea is rough, but Kerala is green and cheap. The North is best visited in winter.
Visa and entry
For Russians an electronic visa is usually arranged; check the conditions, timing and cost on the Indian visa service's official website in advance.
