What Tokyo Disney Resort is

The resort consists of two parks, six Disney hotels, several official hotels and the Ikspiari shopping and entertainment complex. A monorail runs around it. Tokyo Disneyland is the “Kingdom of Dreams and Magic” of seven themed lands: World Bazaar, Adventureland, Westernland and others. DisneySea is the only Disney park devoted to the myths and legends of the sea, made up of eight ports, among them Mediterranean Harbor, American Waterfront and Port Discovery.

Tickets, prices and how to get in on the right day

Tokyo Disney Resort is searched for with queries such as “Tokyo Disneyland tickets”, “DisneySea”, “Disney Sea Tokyo” and “how to get to Maihama”. The parks opened in different years: Disneyland in 1983, DisneySea in 2001, and they are two independent parks with separate tickets. A ticket is issued for one date and one park. The price is dynamic: on off-season weekdays it is lower, on holidays and school breaks higher, so choose the date before buying, not after. Through the catalogue below the ticket is paid for by Russian card, and at the entrance you show the electronic code together with your passport. Check the entry conditions (QR code or exchange) in the card of the offer you choose.

Opening hours change almost every day: opening is at 8:00 or 9:00, closing at 21:00 or 22:00, and on busy-season days the park stays open longer. See the calendar with the exact times when booking or on the resort’s official website.

How to get there on your own and with a transfer

  • Train. From Tokyo Station on the JR Keiyo line to Maihama station is about a quarter of an hour, and the Keiyo trains run without changes. The station exit leads to the resort gates and the Disney Resort Line monorail, which links both parks, the hotels and Resort Gateway station in a loop.
  • From the airports. Direct limousine buses run from Haneda and Narita to the resort, convenient with luggage and children. If your flight is early or late, take a private transfer from the catalogue: it costs more than the train, but has no changes.
  • How to avoid queues. Arrive at opening, or better 30–40 minutes before it. The hits are taken straight away: in the resort app places are issued for individual attractions (Standby Pass), and the paid Premier Access lets you use a short line at a chosen time.

What to see: lands and attractions

Disneyland has seven lands: World Bazaar, Adventureland, Westernland, Critter Country, Fantasyland, Toontown and Tomorrowland. Here it is worth going on Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and the Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast in Fantasyland. In DisneySea the lands are called ports: Mediterranean Harbor, American Waterfront, Port Discovery, Lost River Delta, Arabian Coast, Mermaid Lagoon, Mysterious Island and Fantasy Springs. Of the attractions, people usually pick first Tower of Terror, Journey to the Center of the Earth and Soaring: Fantastic Flight. It is DisneySea that sells alcohol, and the evening shows over the lagoon are watched from Mediterranean Harbor.

Restrictions and tips

  • Passport and ticket. Take your passport and the electronic ticket on your phone. Bags are checked near the entrance, so it is better without large backpacks.
  • What is not allowed. Drones, selfie sticks and tripods are not permitted; you may bring your own food and drinks only in small amounts, and large suitcases are not allowed into the waiting areas, so leave luggage in the left-luggage lockers at the station or the entrance.
  • Weather. In summer it is hot and humid: you need a hat, trainers and a raincoat. In winter the wind blows from the bay in the evening, so a warm jacket and gloves will come in handy. The best weeks for a calm day are weekdays in January, early February and late November.
  • Which park to choose. For a first trip with children take Disneyland, for adults and a romantic trip DisneySea. If you have two days, devote the first to one park and the second to the other.
  • Internet. Show times and queues are checked in the resort app, which needs mobile internet: connect an eSIM before you arrive.

Hotels nearby: Tokyo Disney

It is worth staying either in the Disney hotels on the monorail line or near Maihama station on the Keiyo line: that way you reach the gates in a few minutes and do not spend the morning on the road. If you plan all of Tokyo, stay by Tokyo Station or in Shinjuku and go for a day by train. See the selection in the section hotels in Japan.
