About the park

Universal Studios Osaka opened in 2001 and became one of five Universal Studios parks in the world. It has more than 60 attractions and zones such as Jurassic Park, Hollywood and WaterWorld. The description highlights the world of Super Mario, shows with cartoon characters and holiday parades.

Tickets, the Express Pass and how to get into Super Nintendo World

USJ, Universal Studios Japan and Universal Studios Osaka are the same place. The ticket is called a Studio Pass and is sold for a specific date; the price depends on the day and season. The Express Pass is sold separately: it shortens the wait for selected attractions, and on big holidays most guests take it. Through the catalogue below a ticket is booked online and paid for by Russian card in roubles.

Entry to Super Nintendo World (the Super Mario world zone) is limited: you go in with a ticket for a time slot, which on busy days is issued in the USJ app. The most popular attraction is Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge, and the queue for it grows within the first hour. To interact with the coins and blocks, people buy a Power-Up Band.

How to get there on your own and with a transfer

• Train. From JR Osaka station on the JR Yumesaki Line it is 10–15 minutes to Universal City station, and from there about five minutes on foot along Universal CityWalk to the gates. From Namba and Umeda people usually change at Nishikujo station.
• From Kansai airport. The direct Osaka Limousine bus goes to Universal Studios in about an hour and is convenient with luggage; from Kyoto and central Osaka there are transfers from the catalogue.
• Opening hours. The opening and closing times change almost daily: from 8:00–9:00 to 20:00–22:00. See the calendar when choosing a date. Arrive 40–60 minutes before opening, as they let people in before the start time if queues have built up.

USJ has Minion Park, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Hollywood, New York, San Francisco, Amity Village, WaterWorld and Universal Wonderland for children. Adults enjoy Flying Dinosaur, Hollywood Dream The Ride and the shows in WaterWorld.

Restrictions and tips

• Passport and ticket. Tickets are electronic, and you show the QR code at the entrance; take your passport with you.
• What is not allowed. Drones, selfie sticks and large bags are not allowed in; leave glass bottles, sharp objects and large suitcases in the left-luggage room at the entrance.
• The app. The official USJ app shows waiting times and lets you request a time slot for the Mario zone. You need the internet there all the time, so get an eSIM in advance.
• Clothing. It is very hot in summer and cool in winter, and some attractions are wet: bring a raincoat and spare clothes. The spray from WaterWorld gets even into a rucksack.
• When to go. Weekdays outside school holidays: fewer queues. Halloween and the Christmas events are beautiful but the most crowded.
• Height restrictions. Many attractions have a minimum height; check at the entrance to the zone if you are travelling with children.
