South Korea is the Joseon dynasty's palaces in Seoul, the colorful slopes of Gamcheon in Busan, the neon of night markets and the volcanic island of Jeju with lava shores and tangerine orchards. A holiday in South Korea combines city, mountains and sea, and high-speed trains make trips between them quick.
An independent trip around South Korea is made easier by the metro and KTX trains, understandable signs and a large number of hotels of any category. Jeju is reached by plane from Seoul and Busan in an hour.
Why independently
- Your own route. Seoul, Busan and Jeju are conveniently linked by high-speed trains and short flights.
- Price and flexibility. Direct booking is often cheaper than a tour, especially outside the peak of cherry blossoms and autumn.
- Food and cafés. Markets and street cuisine are a separate part of the route.
When is it best to go
The best seasons are spring (April — May, cherry blossoms) and autumn (September — October, red leaves). Summer is hot and humid, in winter Seoul is cold, but there are ski resorts and fewer tourists.
Visa and entry
The entry rules for Russians, the K-ETA electronic permit and the conditions of the visa-free regime have changed — check the current requirements on the official websites of the embassy and Korea's immigration service.
Where to stay
- Seoul — palaces, Myeongdong, Hongdae, the metro
- Busan — Haeundae and Gwangalli beaches, the fish market
