Ancient Siam
A museum park with miniature copies of Thailand's historical landmarks. Open 09:00–19:00. Rated 4.6.
A huge open-air park with reduced and full-size copies of the country's main monuments. We tell you about hours and how to plan the day.

Ancient Siam combines classic sights, film sets, Buddhist shrines, historic monuments, folk culture and floating markets. The park was created over more than half a century. Among its buildings are the Sanphet Prasat palace: an exact 1:1 copy of the main palace of the Ayutthaya era, built on the original site, and the Hall of Arhats — a water temple that combines the architectural styles of Thailand, Myanmar and China.
Ancient Siam (Muang Boran, เมืองโบราณ) in Samut Prakan province is a huge open-air park with Thailand’s monuments: the outline of the grounds repeats the map of the country, and the monuments are placed where the originals stand. The idea belongs to the businessman Lek Viriyaphant, the same man who is building the Sanctuary of Truth in Pattaya. Here in a day you can see Ayutthaya, Sukhothai and the north without leaving the Bangkok area.
The park lies on Sukhumvit about 30 kilometres from the centre. The simplest way: the BTS on the Sukhumvit line to the terminal station Kheha, and then by taxi or Grab, 10–15 minutes. You can’t walk to the entrance, and buses run irregularly. In the evening the way back is noticeably longer because of traffic. If you go with a tour, choose the option with a hotel transfer.
In the morning, while it is cool, begin with the main buildings: the Sanphet Prasat palace and the temples of Ayutthaya. By noon move to the floating-market zone and have lunch by the water, and in the second half of the day take a boat and walk round the northern wooden houses. You can buy a ticket in advance by QR code, and in a ready-made tour with a transfer the guide will show the most interesting places and explain which monuments were restored from old plans.
If your route already includes the real Grand Palace, Ancient Siam gives the reverse perspective: you see almost the whole country in miniature and better understand where the originals stand. For families with children the park is convenient because you can ride bicycles and electric cars around the grounds.
