The Simon Cabaret

This show debuted in 1991 and became one of the most popular cabarets in Southeast Asia. The stage is designed separately for each musical theme, with bright costumes and numbers. It runs from 18:00 to 22:30 in Patong. The show is one of the island’s most recognisable evening outings.

Phuket FantaSea

A park in Kamala based on Thailand’s cultural heritage. The main thing is the Las Vegas-style show “The Legend of the Kingdom of Kamala”. It works from 17:30 to 23:30, the programme includes Thai dishes and the cuisine of different countries, and an evening firework display is noted in the description. The selection has packages with a standard or gold seat, a buffet dinner and a hotel transfer.

The two main evening shows in Phuket are the Simon Cabaret in Patong and the Phuket FantaSea park in Kamala. They are completely different. The cabaret is an hour of bright music, costumes and humour from a troupe that has performed here since 1991; FantaSea is a whole evening with a Thai market, a buffet dinner, fireworks and a big theatre with elephants and acrobats.

How to choose and how to get there

  • The Simon Cabaret. It is in Patong, on a street by the beach, a few minutes from Bangla Road. Over the evening there are several sessions; see the schedule when booking. It suits you if you stay in Patong and want a short show and a walk on Bangla afterwards.
  • Phuket FantaSea. A park in Kamala, about 20 minutes’ drive from Patong. The programme takes the whole evening: entry, a fair, dinner, the theatre. The park does not work every day; traditionally it is closed on some days, so check the date. Tickets come without dinner, with dinner and with a gold-category seat.
  • How to get there. For FantaSea it is most convenient to take a ticket with a hotel transfer: Phuket has no metro, and taxis get more expensive in the evenings. From the airport to Patong it is about an hour.
  • Queues. Arrive 30–40 minutes before the start to pass the security check and sit together. Gold-category seats have a better view.

What to book and what to consider

If you have one evening, go to FantaSea — it is a spectacle for the whole family. If two, add the Simon. A park with a show and dinner is more convenient to take as a package, while drinks and souvenirs are paid separately.

What is inside Phuket FantaSea

The park in Kamala is a complex with the Fantasea Village market, attractions, dinner in the Palace of the Elephants hall and the main show “The Legend of the Kingdom of Kamala” with acrobats, illusionists, elephants and special effects. The fireworks and Thai souvenirs attract families. Be sure to take a ticket with dinner if you want to spend the evening without extra costs: Thai dishes and the cuisine of different countries are included in the package.

Limits and tips

  • Filming. In the FantaSea hall you may not take photographs or film video; phones and cameras are handed in or put away. This rule is not negotiable, but you watch the show without a screen.
  • Dress code. There is no strict one, but shorts and a tank top are uncomfortable in the evening air-conditioned hall; take a light cardigan.
  • Children. FantaSea suits children, while the cabaret is better left to adults or older children.
  • Money. Cash baht are needed for souvenirs, tips and photos with the performers; the cabaret artists take tips for a picture.
  • Return transfer. Book it in advance: after the show the queue for taxis lengthens and prices rise.

Hotels nearby: Shows in Phuket

For the cabaret Patong is ideal: the theatre itself and Bangla Road are nearby, and you can walk back to the hotel. For FantaSea, Kamala, Surin and Karon are closer; in the evenings it is easier to get there from them without changes. Choose accommodation on the page of hotels in Thailand.
