About this hotel

Hanshe Meisu Hotel stands in Lianhu district, literally right above the metro station (lines 2 and 6), five minutes from the city wall and the Beilin Museum, opposite the Kaifeng Mall shopping centre. The hotel offers a free try-on of traditional hanfu clothing — a nice bonus for anyone wanting colourful photos.

The staff are attentive: tea and coffee are served every afternoon, and they help with small requests such as freezing food. The rooms are clean, with all amenities, and there is a partner travel agency for tours.

Who it suits: travellers for whom it matters to be right above a metro station in the very centre of Xi'an, with a bonus hanfu photoshoot.

To be fair: according to some reviews, some rooms are compact and feel more like an enclosed balcony than a proper room — soundproofing from street noise is weak, especially if the window faces the road. There is no hotel car park — plan on public transport or a taxi. According to some reviews the air conditioning doesn't always cope effectively during the hot months.

Excellent hotel location, friendly and attentive service. There are plenty of shopping centres around, and Kaifeng Mall is directly opposite, which is especially convenient for summer walks — it's not as hot. We were very pleased, and on top of that they gave us a free hanfu try-on experience.

Excellent facilities and wonderful service. The hotel is right under the Bell Tower, with the Muslim Quarter behind it. The metro station is directly under the hotel, which makes it very convenient transport-wise. I had a great, comfortable time these two days. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Service at reception was excellent, and tea and coffee were served every afternoon. Most importantly, the location is very convenient: the metro station is right by the hotel, letting you quickly reach most of Xi'an's sights. There's also a laundry and a gym.

Location: very close to the Drum Tower, directly opposite Kaiyuan shopping centre, with the metro station right below. Cleanliness: the room was very clean, with all the amenities. Service: the girl on reception was very friendly, the service excellent. I needed some ice to keep food cold, brought three bottles of water to reception, and the girl there immediately helped me put them in the freezer.

Very clean, the metro station right below, convenient for getting anywhere. I'll come again. The hotel has a partner travel agency.

What they complained about

Awful. Sleeping there is like being out on the street. The cars are unbelievably noisy, and I didn't sleep a wink all night. Never book with them! Their rooms are essentially just a balcony merged into the room. The reception staff were rude too; they insisted I stay one night only, so on the second night I had to change hotel.

Terrible hotels, these cheap motels — no soundproofing at all, poor ventilation, the rooms all have the same smell, disgusting to stay in.

No parking. What a shame. You'll have to find parking yourself.

We arrived at the hotel around midnight. As soon as we got into the room and tried to order takeaway food, our phone stopped working. We went to reception and reported the problem, asking for a higher-category room. We had booked a room with a window, but on arrival found it was a window onto an internal space, not an actual window to the outside. This was unbelievably dull, especially for southerners not used to sleeping in a room like that. First one receptionist said we could get a room with a street-facing window for 50 New Taiwan dollars, but another said it would cost more than 100 New Taiwan dollars, bringing the room price up to around 400 New Taiwan dollars. We decided it wasn't worth it and moved to that same room. We were given a room next to the breakfast hall. The room smelled of cigarette smoke as soon as we walked in, and since there was no window to the outside, it was very noisy the next day during breakfast. Other rooms were too far from phone reception, and the showerhead in our room was broken. They also said the air conditioning only worked on heating, not cooling, and was centrally controlled. The room was stuffy and we couldn't use the air conditioning. We slept badly at night and kept sweating. We had booked based on good reviews, but my friend and I had three phones between us, and they were like bricks with no signal once we were in the room. The service and facilities were awful. Frightening!

The room was terribly hot and stuffy. Without the air conditioning it was very hot, and with it on it was awfully hot. Basically it was hot, so I even turned on the fan 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐 A very unpleasant experience. I slept badly all night. Not recommended.
