Wuzhou Sports Center Hotel 5*: A Pool and the Metro Nearby, Shenzhen

The service was terrible; the front desk staff were never smiling. The room facilities were average, just like a typical hotel, but the room price was definitely not budget-friendly. Overall, it wasn't worth it, and I wouldn't come back.

The room design is problematic. The bathroom and bedroom are not separated, meaning if someone enters the bathroom and turns on the light, it will be too bright for the other person to sleep. Also, the breakfast selection is too limited, and the quality is mediocre; at over 100 yuan per person, it's not worth it. Initially, I was looking forward to it because it was a newly opened five-star hotel, but ultimately I was disappointed.

To be honest, the hotel's decor and environment are excellent, but you should be prepared for potential problems if you choose to stay here. Summary of my stay experience: • Inconsistent with rating: Despite its five-star rating, the service and facilities maintenance completely fail to meet the expected standards. • Shock upon entering the room (under maintenance): After checking in, my family and I entered the room to find a technician climbing a ladder to perform repairs. My family was immediately startled, as the front desk hadn't warned us beforehand. • Dismissive and uncompensated front desk staff: The front desk's attitude was perfunctory, offering only a complimentary fruit platter and breakfast, which failed to mitigate the poor experience. • Management shirking responsibility: The manager's apology lacked sincerity, attributing the mistake to the engineering department and internal communication issues, ignoring customer feelings. • Facilities not properly provided: The next morning at 10 AM, we wanted to use the dry sauna, but it wasn't turned on. I suspect it was shut down to save electricity, which was disappointing again. • Overall experience: Of all the five-star hotels I've stayed at in China, this hotel was the worst. Detailed Review of My Stay: As a frequent traveler who travels domestically for business and leisure, I usually choose to stay in five-star hotels, expecting a certain level of service and management. However, my experience at the Wuzhou Sports Center Hotel completely shattered my perception of five-star hotels; the overall experience was extremely poor. After checking in, my family and I opened the door to our room, only to be shocked by what we saw—a maintenance technician was climbing a ladder inside, performing repairs! This sudden sight startled my family and me. The front desk staff hadn't mentioned or informed us that the room was under repair during check-in. They completely disregarded our safety and our accommodation experience. When I complained to the front desk, their response was very perfunctory and dismissive, leaving a terrible impression. Although the hotel later offered a complimentary fruit platter and toys for the children as compensation, after such a low-level and frightening service error, our impression of the hotel was severely damaged, and we had absolutely no interest in enjoying them. I later called Trip.com to complain and follow up, and only then did the hotel manager call back. Although the manager apologized over the phone, he kept shifting the blame to the engineering department, emphasizing that it was an "internal communication problem." He offered to compensate us for the breakfast, and not wanting to continue arguing with him, I reluctantly accepted the compensation verbally, but stated that my family had not actually used the breakfast as compensation. As a consumer, I have neither the obligation nor the interest to listen to the hotel's internal departmental wrangling and blame-shifting. This only made me angrier, adding fuel to the fire. The next morning around 10 am, I went to use the dry sauna, only to find it wasn't turned on. I wonder if the hotel deliberately shut it down to save on electricity. If the dry sauna needed maintenance, they could have informed major online hotel platforms so that other consumers wouldn't be disappointed. Many travelers may have come specifically for the dry sauna, and I was one of them. My feelings towards the hotel went from disappointment to utter despair. From the initial shock and embarrassment upon check-in, to the management's evasiveness, and the lack of supporting facilities, the series of mistakes was extremely disappointing. This is the worst five-star hotel I've ever stayed at in China, and I will never return. I specifically booked this hotel because it claimed to be a five-star with a swimming pool, hoping to get some exercise during my business trip. The price wasn't cheap either. This is the first time in my life I've seen a five-star hotel pool so crowded. The changing rooms didn't even have lockers for guests, and the showers were out of toiletries and smelled awful. After I reported it, all I got was an apology. Honestly, it was pretty terrible.

The hotel facilities were excellent, but the staff's service was poor. Perhaps due to high volume of guests staying on Saturdays, the experience was unpleasant, and I wouldn't consider staying there again.

CCTV programs require a subscription to watch; I called the front desk several times but no one answered; ordering a delivery took a long time; and the front desk clerk had a sour face as if someone owed her money—it was disgusting.

The front desk staff really needs a lot of improvement; they're on par with a basic motel, completely lacking the professionalism expected of a five-star hotel. On top of that, the breakfast is terrible and definitely not worth the price. The room service on the 11th floor was appalling; the staff, and even the manager, were incredibly rude—it was almost as if they explicitly didn't want to serve us.

Facilities: This is a new hotel, so the facilities are brand new. Hygiene: As soon as I opened the door to the room, I noticed an odor. It got much better after I opened the window, but the shower room had a strong, damp smell that didn't go away even after airing it out. These weren't major issues at the time. However, on the second night, after showering, I found a cockroach at the foot of the bed. After killing it, I called the front desk to request a room change. The first room they offered had a very strong smoke smell, so we had to switch again to finally get a normal room. The hotel's solution was to offer free breakfast for the next day, which we didn't even bother to take. I originally chose this hotel because it was new, thinking the hygiene would be better than older hotels, but finding a cockroach was truly a huge disappointment. Service: The front desk staff were very enthusiastic during check-in.

The experience was terrible, I will never come to this hotel again.

The hotel entrance is really inconveniently located. Every time I take a taxi, the driver can't find the entrance – they either drive past it or have to stop on the side of the road. The bellhop was polite enough. However, the front desk staff at check-in were incredibly rude, giving me dirty looks and acting completely indifferent. The hotel itself is new, but it lacks any real character or quality.
