What to Look For in the Tariff Description

  • Daily or total package. Daily provides a fixed amount every 24 hours, total is more convenient with uneven usage.
  • Validity period. Tariffs indicate terms, mostly from 1 to 30 days.
  • Network. For some profiles the local network or local IP is indicated: check coverage for your route.
  • Hotspot. Cards mark support for internet distribution to other devices.
  • Apps. Sellers’ descriptions mention Google Maps, TikTok and ChatGPT. Check the wording in a specific product.

How to Connect an eSIM

  1. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is not blocked by the operator.
  2. Buy a tariff and receive a QR code by email or in the app.
  3. Install the profile before departure while connected to Wi-Fi: “Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM” (names differ depending on models).
  4. On site, enable data transfer for the new eSIM and make it the primary one for internet.
  5. Leave your main SIM card enabled if you need incoming calls and SMS.

Do not delete the profile until the end of your trip: reinstalling it with the same QR code is usually impossible. Also see tours in the Maldives and transfers and boats in the Maldives.

Coverage varies depending on the island and operator. Check with your hotel which network operates on your island before purchasing a profile.

What to do if your eSIM won't connect?

Make sure data roaming is enabled for your new eSIM and that you have a data plan activated. If that doesn't work, contact the seller’s support team via the order page.
