About the park

Nong Nooch is a complex park where nature is joined with culture. It has rich tropical gardens, traditional Thai architecture and performances: folk dances, including the “dance on nails” and the “bamboo dance”, as well as elephant shows. The park has facilities for children, so it suits a family holiday. The park is loved by families with children.

Nong Nooch Tropical Garden (สวนนงนุช) in Sattahip is not just a botanical garden but a huge park in the south of Pattaya: a French garden with sculpted bushes, Italian and European sections, a dinosaur valley, a replica of Stonehenge, orchids and butterflies. There are also an elephant show, Thai dances and daytime performances. For Russians it is one of the clearest family days out near the city.

How to get there and when to come

The park lies about 18 kilometres south of the centre of Pattaya, not far from the Sukhumvit highway. There is almost no public transport to the entrance itself, so most people take Bolt or Grab (20–40 minutes depending on traffic) or an excursion with a hotel transfer. For an independent trip buy a ticket in advance online and arrange the return with the driver.

  • Hours. The park is open from 8:00 to 18:00. It is better to arrive in the morning: it is less hot, and you can check the timetable of the elephant and dance shows at the entrance.
  • How not to get lost. The grounds are large, so park transport runs round the park and you can take a tour in a sightseeing vehicle; on foot in the heat you will see half as much.
  • How long. 4–5 hours is enough for the gardens and shows, and about six for a full day with lunch.
  • What to combine it with. In ready-made tours Nong Nooch goes together with a floating market and the Sanctuary of Truth, and that takes 6.5 hours. Or go to Nong Nooch in the morning and to the Tiffany Show in the evening.

What to see and how to build the day

Of the gardens, the most photographed are the French park with its sculpted trees, the dinosaur valley, the Stonehenge replica and the orchid greenhouses. The Thai part of the programme is enclosures, a butterfly garden, animal feeding and a cultural show with the “dance on nails” and the bamboo dance. The elephant show runs to the timetable posted at the entrance, so build your route around it.

A classic day looks like this: arrive at opening, go round the gardens while it is not hot, catch the elephant show by noon, have lunch in a café on the grounds and finish the day in the open area with the dinosaurs. If you take a ready-made tour, a Pattaya floating market and the Sanctuary of Truth are often added to it, but then little time is left for the garden itself.

Restrictions and tips

  • Heat. Shade in the open gardens is rare. You need a hat, sunscreen, water and light covering clothes; leave the flip-flops and take trainers.
  • Elephants. The show and riding are arranged on the park grounds. If riding is ethically unacceptable to you, decline it; you can also simply watch the show from the stands.
  • Children. The park is convenient with pushchairs, but the zones are not next to each other, so bring water and a snack.
  • Rainy season. From May to October there are evening downpours: the weather is more reliable in the morning, and some open rides may close.
  • Money. Cash baht is needed for feeding animals, souvenirs and food inside.

Hotels nearby: Nong Nooch Garden

The park is far from Walking Street, so it pays to stay in Jomtien or the south of Pattaya: it is closer along the highway from there. If you want a morning at Nong Nooch, do not take a hotel in the north. A selection of places to stay is on the page for hotels in Thailand.
