How to choose a tour

Sea tours of the islands of Nha Trang Bay are searched for with queries such as “Nha Trang islands excursion in Russian”, “Hon Mun snorkelling”, “Monkey Island”, “floating bar” and “Hon Tam”. It is the most popular trip at the resort: the boat leaves the pier in the morning, makes three or four stops and brings you back by evening.

How to choose a tour and what is in it

The most frequent stops are Hon Mun (a marine reserve with coral reefs and the best snorkelling spots), Hon Tam with a beach and mud baths, Dong Tam and Monkey Island, which people reach to see the macaques. On board there is often a floating bar with cocktails and music, a water slide, fishing and a barbecue. Tours in Russian run from 6.5 to 7.1 hours: the host explains the programme and helps with equipment, so families take such tours.

Where the boats leave from and how long it takes

• The pier. Boats leave from Cau Da port in the south of the city and from the central embankment; the exact place is stated in the booking.
• Time. Departure around 8:00–8:30, return at 15–16 hours; the party on the water ends later. The journey from the centre to the pier takes 10–20 minutes by taxi, and the hotel transfer is usually included.
• Season. The sea is calm from February to September. From October to December it is stormy and many services are cancelled.

What to see: Hon Mun, Hon Mieu, Hon Tam

Hon Mun is Vietnam’s only marine reserve, and strict rules apply there: you must not touch the corals, you must wear a life jacket, and the sun cream must be reef-safe. Restrictions and tips

• What to wear. A swimsuit, a long-sleeved shirt, a hat and cream. A waterproof phone case is a must.
• Swimming ability. For snorkelling you need to stay afloat, and a life jacket is provided. Calm bays suit children, rather than the open reef area.
• Drones and equipment. Drones are banned. Do not take expensive equipment on board: water, spray and rolling.
• Alcohol. On floating-bar tours drinks are not always included in the price; check when booking.
• Passport. Bring the original or a copy: it may be checked at the pier.
• If you need Russian. Choose tours with this mark; the others are in English.
