About this hotel

Qingdao Haiyi Sailing Hotel sits on Donghai West Road in Shinan District, by Yan'an 3rd Road metro station — near the Tsingtao Haitian View & Art waterfront, the historic Huashilou House villa, and Zhanshan Temple. Qingdao Railway Station is 6 km away.

The hotel sits right on the water — some guests mention being able to fish for seafood just across the road and using the hotel's hot springs. It's a short walk to Badaguan and May Fourth Square, and rooms offer views of both the sea and the city.

Who it's for: couples who want to stay by the sea within walking distance of Qingdao's main sights — the location is genuinely one of the best in this part of the city.

On the downside, the claimed five-star status doesn't hold up for a good share of guests: complaints cover surface-level cleaning, stains on furniture, worn towels and kettles, and weak English at the front desk. Several reviews describe the rooms as closer to serviced apartments than a hotel — at this price point, it's worth checking the room condition carefully right at check-in.

The hotel's location is just perfect! Right next to the Haitian shopping center, so eating out nearby is very convenient. The room was very spacious, the views stunning. You can fish for seafood right across the road, and there are hot springs downstairs. It's walking distance from the hotel to Badaguan and May Fourth Square. We stayed three nights and got to enjoy the hot springs every evening ♨️

The hotel manager arranged a late checkout for us. The managers DIDI and ANDY are very kind, the housekeeper was very friendly, and the sea view from the room was just great 👍

A middling hotel. I've seen better food at three-star hotels. There aren't even matches at reception... But the staff were friendly and tried their best.

This is wonderful. Hygiene and service aren't as bad as some say. The location is fantastic: sea view on one side, city view on the other. The bathrooms have big glass windows with curtains that block the view. Outside you can see both mountains and the city. The beach path is right at the entrance, and a little further along there's a boardwalk closed to traffic. You can see the Olympic Sailing Center in the distance and watch the waves crash against the rocks and shore. The churning, breaking sea waves show the power and mystery of the ocean.

Great hotel location, right on the seafront, near the third beach. Staff were very friendly.

What they complained about

I stayed at Qingdao Sailing Hotel, marketed as a 5-star hotel. In reality, it's more of a serviced-apartment level with serious problems across the board. Main drawbacks: 1. Cleanliness Cleaning was extremely superficial. Plumbing wasn't properly cleaned, with visible grime. Only the "center" of things was cleaned, corners and details were ignored. 2. Staff The front desk had no basic English, which made communication in a hotel of this supposed level quite difficult. 3. Room equipment The room has a stove, but: no pans or pots, no cutlery, not even basic things like chopsticks. The kitchen is essentially non-functional. 4. Bathroom No bathtub — for a hotel claiming 5 stars, that's a real gap. 5. Minibar There's no minibar at all. 6. Lobby There's essentially no proper lobby — also unusual for a 5-star hotel. 7. Breakfast Quality was very low: limited choice, missing basics like cheese, and the room was so cold guests ate breakfast in their coats. 8. Outlets A critical problem: no outlets by the bed, the one outlet is taken up by lamps, and charging devices becomes an awkward hunt around the whole room. 9. Location The hotel is in an isolated area: no shops or infrastructure within about 1 km, inconvenient for living and getting around. 10. Service Even basic requests (like matches or a lighter) couldn't be met. 11. Pool It effectively closes earlier than advertised: they stopped letting people in at 20:30 even though the schedule said 21:00. Bottom line: The hotel doesn't match its claimed 5-star category in service, equipment, or overall quality of stay. It's more of an apartment format with minimal service and serious organizational shortcomings. The only plus is the view from the window — it really is stunning. Not recommended, especially if you're expecting international 5-star standards.
