What to look at in the plan description

  • Daily or total package. A daily one gives a fixed amount for every 24 hours, and a total one is more convenient for uneven use.
  • Validity. The plans state their terms, most often from 1 to 30 days.
  • Network. Some profiles state a local network or local IP: check the coverage for your route.
  • Hotspot. The cards mark support for sharing the internet with other devices.
  • Apps. The sellers’ descriptions mention Google Maps, TikTok and ChatGPT. Check the wording in the specific product.

How to set up an eSIM

  1. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is not locked by the operator.
  2. Buy a plan and receive the QR code by email or in the app.
  3. Install the profile before the flight while connected to Wi-Fi: “Settings → Mobile Service → Add eSIM” (the names differ by model).
  4. On arrival turn on data for the new eSIM and make it the main one for the internet.
  5. Leave the main SIM switched on if you need incoming calls and SMS.

Do not delete the profile until the end of the trip: it usually cannot be installed again from the same QR code. See also excursions in South Korea and transfers, passes and cards in South Korea.

Frequently asked questions

Which eSIM do I need for South Korea?

For a trip to Korea only, the "South Korea" profile with a daily or total package will do. If you need calls and SMS, look at the options with a 010 number.

How does a physical SIM differ from an eSIM?

An eSIM is installed by QR code before the flight, while a physical SIM must be collected in Korea. Your phone must support the option you choose.

What if the eSIM does not connect?

Check whether data is turned on for the new eSIM and whether data roaming is allowed for it. If that does not help, write to the seller's support on the order page.
