Dentistry and treatment in Heihe for residents of Priamurye: the state hospital, private clinics with Russian-language support, real 2026 prices, pros and cons.
From Blagoveshchensk to China’s Heihe it is 750 metres across the Amur, by ferry or (in winter) a cable car and a pontoon bridge. This distance has made Heihe perhaps the most popular medical tourism destination for residents of the Far East: thousands of people from Priamurye go here every year not for shopping but for dentistry — and return the same day or after a few days.
Why Heihe specifically
The main advantage is logistics: the ferry crossing takes 15–20 minutes, no visa is needed thanks to the simplified border-crossing regime for residents of border regions (check the current rules on the day of the trip), and the clinic itself can meet the patient right at the exit of the customs terminal. For simple cases (an examination, treatment of a cavity, a one-off crown) it is realistic to manage in one day; for full prosthetics allow 3–7 days.
Prices are, all else equal, lower than in Suifenhe and Manzhouli thanks to the scale of the market: more clinics operate in Heihe, competition is higher, and many of them have their own dental laboratory on site, which speeds up and cheapens prosthetics.
Heihe City State Hospital
The city’s largest medical institution, to which both Chinese and Russian patients have historically been referred. The hospital has a department oriented to receiving guests from Russia — with its own management for foreigners and a Russian-language call centre. Besides dentistry, through the state hospital and clinics associated with it you can get consultations on internal diseases, physiotherapy and traditional Chinese medicine services (the Heihe State Hospital of Chinese Medicine operates separately).
Address: 149-1 Xinglin Street, Aihui District, Heihe, PRC (黑河市瑷珲区杏林街149-1号).
Telephone for Russia: 8-800-234-46-64 (a free call within Russia, around the clock).
Private dental clinics with Russian-language support
Besides the state hospital, the city has about a dozen private dental clinics and chains that specialise precisely in receiving patients from Russia: most have their own website in Russian, a WhatsApp consultant even before the trip, a meeting at the border and a transfer to the clinic. The working model is similar for all: a free initial consultation and a panoramic X-ray, after which a “turnkey” price is named for the whole treatment plan — compare the offers of several clinics before the trip, and don’t agree to the first.
Approximate prices (2026)
| Service | Price in Heihe | For comparison in Russia |
|---|---|---|
| Initial examination + consultation | usually free | 500–1,500 ₽ |
| Panoramic X-ray (OPG) | ~800 ₽ | 1,500–2,500 ₽ |
| Treatment of medium caries | ~300 ₽ | 3,000–6,000 ₽ |
| Treatment of deep caries | ~500 ₽ | 5,000–9,000 ₽ |
| Metal-ceramic crown | from 1,800 ₽ | 15,000–25,000 ₽ |
| Implant with a crown (turnkey) | from 45,000 ₽ | 60,000–120,000 ₽ |
| Full prosthetics (28 crowns) | ~96,000–264,000 ₽ | 300,000–600,000 ₽ |
Prices differ several times over between clinics and for different materials (ceramics, zirconia, different implant systems) — the figures given are approximate, at the lower and middle edge of the market; the final cost is named only after an examination.
Pros and cons
Pros: savings of up to 50–70% compared with Russian prices; the closest option to Priamurye — a 15–20 minute ferry instead of a flight; in-house dental production speeds up prosthetics; Russian-language support at all stages; simple cases can fit into a day trip.
Cons: quality depends heavily on the specific clinic — the market is overcrowded, and there are weak practices chasing the flow; warranty obligations are harder to enforce at a distance if something goes wrong after returning home; the language barrier outside the declared “Russian support” is noticeable; the crossing depends on weather and the ferry/cable car schedule, with queues on peak days.
How to contact a clinic and coordinator in advance
Practically all of Heihe’s private dental clinics run a separate website in Russian and consult in advance via WhatsApp — this is the standard working model of the whole market, not an exception. Among the names known on the market are chains and practices working under the brands dentalchina.ru, chinazub.ru, chengshi.ru, mirastom.ru, heihe-med.su: each has its own website with a price list, an application form and a WhatsApp number for consultation. The procedure is the same: you write to the coordinator in Russian, send photos of your teeth or a panoramic X-ray (if you have one), and receive in reply a preliminary assessment and a visit plan; the coordinator meets you at the border or at the clinic and accompanies you at all stages of treatment.
What to clarify with the coordinator before the trip: the final “turnkey” price for the whole treatment plan, not for individual procedures; whether the transfer from the border and accommodation are included; what warranty is given on the work and whether it is in writing; in what language the doctor will speak at the appointment — often this is not the same person who conducted the WhatsApp correspondence.
How to pay for treatment
International Visa and Mastercard cards in China in most cases do not work directly. In practice payment at border clinics happens in one of these ways: in cash yuan (which can be exchanged on the spot or in advance at a Russian bank), through the Chinese payment systems Alipay/WeChat Pay (for this you need a Russian bank’s UnionPay card linked, set up and tested in advance) or, at some clinics oriented specifically to tourists, by bank card through a POS terminal or by transfer to the clinic’s account in Russia even before the trip. Clarify the payment method with the specific clinic in advance, not on arrival.
How to prepare
- Check the current border-crossing regime (ferry in summer, pontoon bridge and cable car in winter) and document requirements on the day of the trip — they change periodically.
- Compare at least 2–3 clinics by reviews from the last 6–12 months, not by the overall rating for all years.
- Ask for a detailed estimate for each stage of treatment before work begins, not a rough total “by eye”.
- For prosthetics and implantation allow at least 3–7 days and clarify whether accommodation is included in the package price.
- Take a valid international passport, a little cash yuan for the first time and clarify the payment method with the clinic in advance.
- Save the coordinator’s contact (WhatsApp) and clarify a backup means of communication in case the main channel is unavailable on the spot.
FAQ
Do I need a visa to travel to Heihe? For residents of border regions a simplified border-crossing procedure without a full visa applies — but the rules change periodically, check the current conditions before the trip with a tour operator or at the border crossing.
Is it true that even pensioners go to Heihe? Yes, this is one of the reasons for the destination’s popularity: prosthetics, which in Russia are financially out of reach for many elderly people, cost many times less here at comparable quality at proven clinics.
Can I fit it into one day? For an examination, treatment of one or two teeth or taking impressions — yes. For full prosthetics with crowns made, a realistic period is from 3 days.
How do I contact the clinic coordinator before the trip? Via WhatsApp — the overwhelming majority of Heihe clinics have a separate number for consultations in Russian even before the visit; the link to it is usually given by the clinic’s website or by the travel agent organising the trip.
Which cards can I pay with in Heihe? Russian Visa and Mastercard do not work. You need cash yuan, a UnionPay card linked to Alipay/WeChat Pay, or a prior agreement with the clinic on payment by transfer or by card through a POS — clarify the specific option in advance.
Prices and treatment conditions change — check current information directly with the clinic before the trip.
