Which city to choose for a first trip

City Main impressions How long you need

Phuket Sea tours to Phi Phi and the Similan Islands, shows 5–10 days, tours as you wish
Pattaya Koh Larn island, parks and evening shows near Bangkok 2–4 days
Chiang Mai Elephants, temples, mountains and Chiang Rai 3–4 days
Krabi Islands with snorkelling, Railay beach, the Emerald Pool 3–5 days
Samui Koh Tao and Nang Yuan islands, active tours 4–7 days

A ticket, a tour with a transfer or a private format

A ticket suits you when you travel on your own and freedom matters to you. A tour with a transfer is more convenient for islands and distant parks, where you need a boat or a driver. A private format costs more, but the route can be changed. For Chiang Rai, the Similan Islands and floating markets people usually choose ready-made day tours.
